CHAMPIONS OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY
2024, Documentary, 80 min | Director: Ben Sturgulewski
After narrowly missing his chance to become Afghanistan’s first Olympic skier, Alishah Farhang returns to the remote mountains of his homeland and ignites a vibrant new ski culture. Bringing together young athletes from rival villages with makeshift wooden skis, he organizes a ski race like no other, uniting his community in a rare moment of hope and triumph. When their world is suddenly upended, he and the athletes must call upon those lessons learned on the slopes. Revealing a stunning unseen side of Afghanistan, this is a story about how champions can be made by more than gold medals.

WHY A SPORT FILM FESTIVAL?
Sport is an integral part of the cultural narrative. It is a common language that has the power to bring people together.
Sharing powerful personal and political stories from around the world through the lens of sport creates an opportunity to learn about one another and gain a deeper understanding of our shared humanity.
This is the place where inspiration can be found to affect social change.
CSFF VISION
The Canadian Sport Film Festival (CSFF) aims to provoke dialogue on the power of sport to inspire social change, by sharing powerful personal and political stories about sport from around the world to educate, engage and entertain audiences and communities throughout Canada.
We envision a global community that embraces sport for all.
that we screen the best films submitted to us each year,
and that these films provoke dialogue about the role that sport plays in revealing important social issues."
