RAISE THE BAR

Friday, November 18, 7 p.m.
TIFF Bell Lightbox, Cinema 3

In 2016, an Icelandic basketball coach decided to train an 8-year-old girls’ team unconventionally: they would learn both mental and technical skills, channel inner feelings into physical results, and become leaders. The team dominated their own league, so they asked to play against boys’ teams. The country’s basketball leaders objected despite Iceland priding itself on gender parity. But the girls pressed on, took up space, and used their voices to question the rules.
