CSFF 2023

The 15th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival was held on November 17 and 18, 2023 at TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto.

CSFF 2023 featured a truly international lineup of films, with features from four continents: JessZilla (USA), 0.5 Meters (Spain), Pasang (Nepal/USA), and Red, White and Brass (New Zealand).

CSFF also included a digital festival, with select screenings available online across Canada.

CSFF 2022

It was great to be back in person at TIFF Bell Lightbox for the 14th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival November 18-19,  2022.

CSFF 2022 presented 10 films in cinema (4 features, 6 shorts) plus 3 digital screenings available online across Canada from November 18-24, 2022  – our first hybrid festival!

CSFF Virtual Shorts 2

Our second short film series CSFF Virtual Shorts 2  featured these four sport films – each screening for one week in November 2021:

CSFF 2021

The 13th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival was presented virtually from May 14-16, 2021.

CSFF 2021 shone the spotlight on rowing. The festival featured the Canadian Premiere of A Most Beautiful Thing and two short films about rowing: Boys from the Back of Beyond and Rowing the River.

We also offered virtual audiences access to CSFF Q&A sessions with special guests.

Undaunted by the pandemic, CSFF presented the 12th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival virtually from June 11-13, 2020.

CSFF 2019

The 11th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival CSFF 2019 took place in person at TIFF Bell Lightbox June 6-9, 2019.

The 10th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival CSFF 2018 was held in person at TIFF Bell Lightbox June 8-10, 2018.

The 8th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival CSFF 2016 took place at TIFF Bell Lightbox over three days, from May 20-22, 2016.

Canadian Sport Film Festival comes to Brock University – March 2017

Did you know? Before the 2023 film Next Goal Wins by director Taika Waititi, there was a documentary Next Goal Wins that screened at CSFF 2014.

May 2014

CSFF 2014

The 6th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival CSFF 2014 was held at TIFF Bell Lightbox from May 16-18, 2014. The festival featured 22 films, including 14 Canadian premieres and an International premiere.

CSFF 2014 features two films about running – Athletics Ontario:

  • Running for Jim (2013, United States, Documentary, 78 minutes)
  • Back on Track (2013, Germany, narrative, 105 minutes)
    A 70 year-old former Olympic marathon champion, now living in a nursing home,  decides to train for the Berlin Marathon.

CSFF 2013

The 5th annual Canadian Sport Film Festival CSFF 2013 was held on June 7 and June 8, 2013 at TIFF Bell Lightbox. 

Canadian Sport Film Festival celebrates Canada’s game and an infamous moment in Canadian sport history – Athletics Ontario:

  • Opening Night: Lace Bite (2012, Canada, documentary) – Forty remarkable women attempt to play the longest continuous hockey game ever, to set a world record and raise money for cystic fibrosis. 
  • Closing Night: 9.79* (2012, United Kingdom, documentary, 80 minutes) – Revisiting the controversial men’s 100-metre final at the 1988 Seoul Olympics through interviews with all 8 men who ran the race. — Read more about 9.79* at IDFA 2012.
